Edible Landscape

Iceland

The main purpose of our Icelandic visit was to visit community gardens. We have to admit that there are a lot of them and they look very good. Vegetables grow very well here, with cabbage plants, potatoes and rhubarb leading the way in plantings! Today we will present two of the gardens established in Reykjavik. The first is located at a multi-family development between Álfheimar Street and the Botanical Garden. The second - Matjurtargarðar - is located by the Fossvogsdalur city park.

We continue our tour of Icelandic community gardens. Today it's time to present the site located on Jaðarsel Street and the Leikskólinn Reynisholt Gvendargeisla after-school garden. We were delighted with these sites and the fact that the children have the right to co-determine plant plantings! Thank you to Monika Kalucka for showing us around the garden!

One of our destinations was one of the more interesting community gardens in the northern part of Europe. It was established on the slope of a volcano on the island of Heimaey, located in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago. One of the most captivating places we saw in Iceland. The whole island is amazing! For the rest, take a look for yourself!
